F3F Wind
BLE Anemometer
About
F3F Wind is a mobile application for monitoring wind conditions during an F3F race. It provides a continuous measurement of the wind speed as well as a graphical display of the direction. If the wind conditions become illegal, a timer is started, and the elapsed time is shown on the screen. When the Illegal conditions continue for the designated period, this is signalled both audibly and visually until the conditions return to within the legal parameters.
Configuration
Parameters for the conditions are set by default to the values described in the FAI rules but can be reconfigured in Settings, if needed, to satisfy local requirements.
Pre-requisites
To use it, you need an electronic anemometer communicating over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). The application will search for and connect to devices broadcasting over the standard Environmental Sensing Profile (0x181A), and will attempt to read data from the following standard characteristics:
- Battery Level (0x2A19)
- True Wind Speed (0x2A70)
- True Wind Direction (0x2A71)
- Apparent Wind Speed (0x2A72)
- Apparent Wind Direction (0x2A73)
Set up
1. To begin, you must connect to your device. Make sure your device is turned on, and enter the settings screen using the button at the bottom of the main screen:
2. To start searching, press the search icon to start looking for appropriate BLE devices:
3. Your device will appear in the window when connected. Press the device name to connect:
4. Depending on how your device is configured, you may need to change the Byte Order or Reading Type. You can choose between Apparent/True Wind Speed and Little/Big Endian.
That's it! Enjoy! Have fun and fly safely.
